The Vicino side table is the latest addition to a range of products designed by Foster + Partners Industrial Design for Molteni & C, Milan. A small table with a metal structure that holds two shelves: a fixed lower shelf and a swivel upper top, its minimalist form is both sculptural and highly functional.
The base of the table is a 40-centimetre wide cast aluminium disc with two equal-sized shelves above, which together with the slim upright support are made with laser-cut steel. The upright is off-centred on the base, making the shelves appear impossibly cantilevered from a single point on the edge of the discs. The top shelf can swivel 360-degrees, with the frame also concealing a sophisticated mechanism for transverse movement. The table-tops are available in several marble or eucalyptus wood finishes, with the frame in red, pewter or bronze.
